The Simpsons have provided some of the biggest The Simpsons DVD in pop culture and have established themselves as one of the staples of television in general. I think it’s safe to say that once The Simpsons is off the air, television just won’t be the same. Sure, The Simpsons DVD Box Set say that Family Guy will replace The Simpsons as a new generation of viewers have become accustomed to it’s vulgar, shocking and embarrassingly hilarious sense of humor. But sooner or later, The Simpsons DVD Season will run out of ideas and respectfully step down as Sunday night’s #1 show.
Futurama was canceled after ratings dropped. Yet (just like The Simpsons Box Set) DVD sales surprisingly skyrocketed and Futurama was back in business. Demand for more Futurama overcame Fox, and they distributed three separate direct-to-DVD feature films which were then The Simpsons Seasons 1-21 DVD and aired on select networks as an episodic series. Ratings were high and, presto; new Futurama is coming in 2011!
I’m sure it’s been brought up before at one point at The Simpsons 1-21 DVD, but I think that The Simpsons will continue telling stories through the home video medium. Imagine this: The Radioactive The Simpsons Complete Box Set!
These would be extra appealing because they were featured in the original series. And I’m sure that The Simpsons writers could come up with another ‘The Simpsons on DVD Shot Mr. Burns’-type story that could span through a whole 90 min.
So yes, the writing has gotten better in the last year, but 20 The Simpsons DVD Set is a long time and it’s already been ‘confirmed’ that The Simpsons will only be around for another couple of years. Personally, my guess would be for them to make it an even 25. Cause that way, we could say that “The Simpsons was not only the first cartoon sitcom, but it was on the air for a quarter of a century.”
Post your thoughts below and let me know if The Simpsons DVDs would like to see ‘Radioactive Man: The Movie’ in the near future.
